Carly,

I think the problem must be on your end. Looks fine here.

Our wedding was sorta big, about 180 people. I don't remember much about it other than the fact my Dad started crying in church when he was going to sing Sunrise Sunset from Fiddler On The Roof. He did sing it at the reception. He has a beautiful voice. Ah, memories.

Cute article. I had a little trouble reading because the formatting is strange. The comments overwrote the top of the article. Maybe it's just a problem for me. The main reason I had a big wedding was to please our parents! True. We floated the idea of something small and they were so upset we couldn't do it. But the memories are nice so I'm glad I did it.

RD is an amazingly supportive group of people. I actually dedicated one of my first books to Romance Divas because I wouldn't have finished the book without you guys.

It's so funny that you wrote about this song because it's on my newest playlist :)

Sherry,

You're too funny! Our wedding was a budget one as well, but it still cost a few dollars more than $100. I borrowed my wedding dress from a cousin. The cake was a gift from a friend. I made the bridesmaids dresses. And my dad got us a deal at the banquet hall and some friends of his provided the music as the reception. I think we paid $6.75 a head for chicken and beef with wine, beer and soda. We collected nearly as much in wedding gifts as the wedding ended up costing us or rather costing my parents.

Oh, forgot to mention four of our kids' weddings we've had so far, two daughters and two sons, all of which were beautiful, expensive but not terribly so. For daughters' weddings I made both original wedding dresses, designed by our fashion designer daughter, eight bridesmaides dresses for first daughter's wedding, altered the dresses for second daughter's wedding, but everything turned out beautiful!
Can give you tips on giving a vegetarian wedding and a vegan wedding. Do you know how hard it is to find men's tuxes without wool or silk in them? Polyester! Plus the whole wedding party wore athletic shoes. Went well with the tattoes and piercings present in those guests! :???:
You just can't make this up.

 Love this!! I'm happy you added that last line or I would've told Vern on you!
As a mom, wife, sister and daughter, I agree with you. My own wedding, many decades ago, was planned a bare 3 weeks in advance, had more in the wedding party than in the seats (13 total in the church, and cost about $100 in total. Did I mention how long ago this was? I even needed my mother's signature on the license, since I was not yet 21 (20).
With such a small wedding, we got two gifts. Both towels. Mom gave me a shower later, in another state. I got sent the gifts, all opened but no idea who they were from. Made it hard to send thank yous!
But it worked, six kids, three grandkids later, we are still going on dates.

Elle:

My weakness is TV too - and I've got to confess: I love reality TV. Storage Wars is one of my faves. I can "Yuuup" with the best of 'em but I really adore Barry - who doesn't? I also like the Celebrity Apprentice, Parking Wars, Fashion Wars, Survivor, The Amazing Race - sadly, I could go on - I watch several of the pawn shop shows.

By and large, they don't help much with dialogue - except when I'm writing direct or cross examination. Even more than the "Judge" shows, I find that the reality shows remind me of how people really talk.

One of my favorite places for general inspiration and dialogue is Grey's Anatomy. I love how Mer's voiceover at the beginning of the show wraps up with her conclusion at the end. And I adore how Shonda Rhimes and her team of writers can make the improbable probable. To a writer with an over-the-top POV - Grey's is great fuel for the imagination.

I don't know how many folks have tried "Scandal" yet - Shonda's new show - but the dialogue on that one is good too and Rhimes' gift for making the incredible the inevitible is on display too.

Great post - thanks!

Emily:

I get exactly what you mean. In my case, it's usually books rather than musicians (although that would be fun too;-). The characters in books draw me in and I'll be reading one and another will wander through. Then I have to find or track down that character's story. It's like finding a friend in an unexpected spot.

And I also agree about the importance of community. Whether it's to gripe, brag or vent OR its to get help with a title or a description, community matters. I hope all authors find a good community of writers and that they stay involved.

BTW - Romance Divas is a great community filled with fine, supportive folks and some amazing authors who haven't gotten too "important" to help out the little people - like me. With the help of a good community, little people can someday become a little bit "important too" -

I think my favorite part of being a writer is being able to say, as a reader, "I know her." In my Calibre library, I have a "friend" tag. It makes me so deliciously happy when I tag a book I loved with "friend."

And I really agree with your advice. Having the RD community as a constant from my first inkling that I wanted to learn how to write to being able to celebrate a book on the shelf has been something I am grateful for.
